Beaumont Hospital
The Raheny Community Nursing Unit (RCNU) is a 100 bedded residential unit for long term elderly residents which is located on the St Joseph’s Hospital campus. Residents are cared for in an open, welcoming and safe environment, where respect and dignity for residents, family members and staff are valued principles. The RCNU is a nurse led unit which is supported by a consultant geriatrician, medical, rehabilitation staff and activities teams.
Within the Community Nursing Unit there are four smaller units with twenty five beds in each - one four- bedded room, two two-bedded rooms and seventeen single rooms – all which overlook lovely landscaped courtyards.
Each unit has access to a conservatory, sitting room, library, a quiet space, lounge and activity room where residents can socialise with each other and relax, as well as quiet private areas to be alone when needed.
The Unit provides care for residents who require general care as well as residents with dementia, physical disabilities, patients requiring palliative care, patients with chronic physical illness, and psychiatry of old age.
The Unit also caters for individuals who require specialist diets and those who have difficulties eating and drinking.
Please see letter to families and residents in respect of the Annual Report and HIQA Report from 2024.

Please see attached the most recent HIQA report that was published at the end of February 2024 on foot of their inspection of the unit which took place in November 2024. We are delighted with this report which shows the high standard care the residents receive at RCNU.
RCNU consists of four identical units comprised of twenty-five beds each. Each unit has a dedicated nurse manager, a nurses station and sub-station.
Each is supported by Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietician, Speech & Language.
Menus are created by the campus senior chef in consultation with the dietician team.
Central dining rooms are provided and a ward pantry is available which serves snacks and drinks to the residents.
The RCNU have a dedicated activities team who encourage our residents to participate in organised events including regular live music, visits from local music groups, outings, bingo, men’s club and other group activities.
To enhance the residents' well-being and confidence we have a prayer room/quiet room and offer regular visits from a hairdresser, a chiropodist and an optician. Laundry services are available for residents.
