Beaumont Hospital hosts the 4th Clinical Audit & Patient Safety Meeting

The Annual Clinical Audit & Patient Safety meeting took place last Thursday May 14th. Organised by Clinical Governance, the meeting provided an opportunity for staff to engage, discuss and learn how the hospital is committed to improving the quality of care delivered to our patients. 


The theme for this year’s meeting was ‘Making a difference:  Quality & patient safety begins with you’.  The keynote speakers were excellent with Dr Tricia Woodhead, Quality Improvement Fellow, Health Foundation UK, speaking about the key ingredients for organisation wide patient safety and quality improvement. Dr. Fidelma Fitzpatrick, Consultant Microbiologist, Beaumont Hospital gave an engaging presentation on using ‘Twitter for Healthcare Improvement’.


The meeting then progressed to parallel sessions from multiple disciplines representing many areas and demonstrating the wide range of quality improvement activities taking place across departments and directorates in the Hospital. Prizes were awarded for best oral and poster presentations. This years meeting was extended to the RCSI Hospital group and received more than 80 abstracts.


Other activities on the day included Ms Debbie McNamara, Clinical Director, Surgical Directorate who delivering a session at Surgical Grand Rounds focusing on Better Beaumont - Lunch & Learn quality improvement activities.  This was followed by a Masterclass organised by Ms McNamara looking at ways to reduce surgical site infection.
