About us
The Emergency Department of Beaumont Hospital provides service to in excess of 63,000 patients each year. The Service is provided 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.
Ours is an Adult Emergency Department which sees and treats patients from 16 years of age and older. The Department also receives patients for Neurosurgical Assessment from other hospitals throughout the country.
The Department is supported by the on-call Physicians and Surgeons and the back-up of the Critical Care Team in Beaumont Hospital.
As part of the Department we have a GP Liaison Service which liaises with our local General Practitioners with regard to their patient attendances to the Department and with regard to the results of investigations and follow up arrangements.
The Department also has a Minors Assessment and Treatment Unit (MATU), which is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner provided service. This is a protocol-driven service and significantly helps to reduce the wait for patients with minor injury and illness attending the Emergency Department.
The Department is active in the area of audit and research.
