Medical Oncology Service
The service includes a day unit service, inpatient service, outpatient clinic service, and consultation service.
The day unit facility provides a location for assessment of patients, both in the elective and emergency setting; chemotherapy administration; supportive care, in conjunction with the palliative medicine service. The service also provides for the education and development of future medical oncologists, and clinical nurse specialists.
The associated Cancer Clinical Trials Unit is supported by continuing grants from the Health Research Board.
The Medical Oncology service is part of a Network of Oncology Units, including Connolly Hospital in Dublin 15 and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth.
The Medical Oncology service is staffed by a team of specialists, including medical oncologists, oncology nurse specialists, social workers, dieticians, physio- and occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and psycho-oncologists.
