About Daffodil Centres
For over 50 years the Irish Cancer Society has been caring for and supporting cancer patients and their families at every step of their cancer journey. The Society has unrivalled expertise in providing trusted and reliable information, support and advice on all aspects of cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment to anyone concerned or affected by cancer.
Daffodil Centres are part of the Society’s support service. They are the first service of their kind in Ireland and bring the Society’s expertise to hospitals, where we can reach people in times of need. Funded entirely by the Society, each centre is staffed by Irish Cancer Society Cancer Nurses who are supported by trained volunteers. Together they take the time to listen and provide free information, advice and support tailored individually and in confidence.

Who uses Daffodil Centres?
The Centres are located in a designated space in hospitals near the foyer or main entrance to enable easy access. Daffodil Centres are open to all, no referral or appointment is necessary. They are designed to be a friendly, welcoming environment. Those visiting the centre include in-patients, out-patients, partners, family or friends, people with cancer worries or symptoms, those who want to reduce their risk of cancer, healthcare professionals and hospital staff.
Wide range of information, support and advice available
We understand that the information and support needs of those affected by cancer will vary with every individual person. To ensure we meet the needs of our enquirers the advice, information and support on offer in the Daffodil centre is wide ranging from:
Cancer prevention and early detection
- Information on the various types of cancer, treatments and side-effects
- Details of local and national support services
- Finding the right practical help and advice, for example support for carers, social welfare entitlements or travel concerns in relation to hospital appointments
- End of life services
- Adjusting to life after cancer
Talk to a Cancer Information Service Nurse or specially trained volunteer
Those who visit our Daffodil Centres can ask questions and talk through issues and concerns with a specialist cancer information nurse and specially trained volunteers. Together they take the time to listen and provide information, advice and support tailored to your needs in confidence.
Visit us
The Daffodil Centre is located in the main hospital foyer. You can drop-in at any time during opening hours. If you’re not able to visit us, we’re happy to talk to you over the phone or you can write to or email us.
