Breast Reconstruction is an integral part of breast cancer treatment. There are physical and emotional issues involved with breast cancer. Having breast reconstruction whether immediate or delayed can help overcome some of these issues. Breast reconstruction is not limited to mastectomy defects of breast cancer patients but can be required for breast conservation surgery, risk reducing breast surgery and some benign breast diseases.

Here in Beaumont Hospital we have a strong and long standing breast reconstruction service. The service is provided by a team of plastic surgeons with interest in breast reconstruction along with our breast surgery colleagues. Immediate reconstruction cases (at time of mastectomy) are discussed in a multi disciplinary setting and the most appropriate form of reconstruction according to the needs of the patient is recommended. Secondary breast reconstruction (at a later stage) referrals are also accepted from Breast Surgeons.

Beaumont Hospital excels itself in providing the most comprehensive breast reconstruction service from complex microsurgical reconstruction to implant based surgery depending upon patient requirements.

Beaumont hospital was the first hospital to provide a regular service of microsurgical reconstruction using free DIEP flap. Beaumont Hospital is also a referral centre for all complex cases from other units.
