Patient Information & Videos

The videos below describe the patient’s journey from diagnosis of oesophageal cancer, through treatment and surgery. It is designed to introduce patients and their families to the team here in Beaumont and provide information and guidance to them at different steps of their journey.   Three of our patients have also described their own cancer journey.

Engaging patients in this way plays an important role in getting patients engaged and activated in their care, during a physically and emotionally stressful time in their lives when they get a diagnosis of Oesophageal cancer.  Our patient stories are real and show how others dealt with similar health issues and problems. We hope that the videos will help patients internalize important information about their health conditions and provide an emotional touchpoint. Patients realize they aren’t alone, and that they can benefit from what their peers have already been through.

The making of the videos would not have been possible without the staff from the Upper GI Surgery Unit, the patients who bravely told their stories and the hard work, time and commitment of Dermot McConkey, of Best Practices, who developed the videos (Dermot himself is a cancer survivor recently finished treatment with the Department of Upper GI surgery in Beaumont).
