Senior Executive Profiles


Ian Carter, Chief Executive

As well as Chief Executive,  Ian is also the Chief Executive of the Dublin North East/Royal College of Surgeons Hospitals Group.

 A Welshman by birth, Ian comes to Beaumont with a wealth of healthcare knowledge and experience and has held Senior Hospital Management positions within Ireland including HSE roles as National Director Acute Hospitals, Head of Special Delivery Unit, CEO National Treatment Purchase Fund, CEO St James’s Hospital and General Manager Acute Hospitals Mid-Western Health Board, as well as a number of roles in the healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia and the UK.


Patrick Clerkin, Chief Operations Officer

Patrick took up the position as Chief Operations Officer in April 2020. Prior to his appointment, Patrick held a number of senior roles within Beaumont Hospital; including Head of Patient Access, Business Manager Medical Directorate and Business Manager Laboratory. Patrick places a strong emphasis on process and system redesign, with quality care and patient access as key priorities. Patrick is passionate about continuous Quality improvement and firmly believes that Beaumont can improve in terms of efficiency and effectiveness on a daily basis. From Dublin, Patrick lives in Drumcondra with his wife and four children.

Adam O'Hare, Director of Finance & Procurement

Adam O’Hare was appointed to the postion of Director of Finance & Procurement in September 2018.    .

Adam is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and was admitted to membership in 2006. He has worked for Beaumont since June 2014 as the Management Accountant/Assistant Director of Finance. He previously spent 5 years working in the Finance Department of St James’s Hospital. Prior to this he spent five years working as an auditor which included two years with Grant Thornton. Adam’s remit also includes responsibility for Supplies, HIPE and Management Information


Mark Graham, Director of ICT

Mark  joined Beaumont in 1990, and spent the first few years working in Medical Records.  In 1998 he joined the IT Department as a Computer Operator and over the years lead the service desk and incident management team and laterly was the driving force for the virtualisation project. Prior to his appointment as ICT Director on February 2014, his most recent role was as Computer Operations Manager. 

Mark is an enthusiastic, self motivated individual who sets high standards. He has the ability to motivate others, has proven leadership abilities within the IT Department coupled with extensive experience and understanding of the importance of ICT in health and in particular to the business of Beaumont.

From Dublin, Mark lives Portmarnock, is married to Emer and they have five children.

Marie Murray, Director of Nursing

Marie Murray commenced in the position as Director of Nursing at Beaumont Hospital in March 2021.  Marie started her nurse training in Jervis Street Hospital and qualified as a nurse in Beaumont Hospital in May 1990. 

Following Marie’s training in Beaumont Hospital Marie qualified as a midwife at the Rotunda Hospital and  subsequently qualified with a BSc from DCU, and a Masters of Information Technology and Business from NUIG, Galway.

Marie has vast experience in all areas of nursing in Ireland and abroad; 10 years in the Rotunda Hospital & 15 years Mater Private. Marie also worked in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and recently had an opportunity to work as a nursing director in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi from 2015-2018 with the responsibility to lead on the opening of and recruiting nurses for all acute care and critical care wards. On return from the UAE in 2018 Marie worked with the RCSI hospital group and since July 2019 has been working in Connolly Hospital as the Chief Operations Officer. Marie is delighted to be returning to her Alma Mater as the Director of Nursing.

Marie is originally from Co. Leitrim but is now living in Dublin with her husband Jerome, and her 3 daughters.

David Sweeney, HR Director

David joined Beaumont Hospital in mid 2018 as Dierctor of HR and has a strong knowledgeof health services management with close to 30 yeras experience in the health sector with a particular interest in promoting staff engagement and development.

David leads a team of highly skilled HR professionals who promote and support the personal development of staff, our key resource, and promotes a working environment conducive to positive employee relations through effective and innovative best practice HR policies .

Before working in Beaumont Hospital, David was Assistant Director of HR in St. James Hospital.

Pauline Ackermann, Head of Clinical Services

Pauline Ackermann joined Beaumont in March 2018 as Head of Clinical Services. She is responsible for the Clinical Services Division, comprising the core Health and Social Care Professions of Clinical Engineering and Medical Physics, Medical Social Work, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, and Speech and Language Therapy. The Division strives to harness discipline expertise to deliver system improvement and excellence in patient care through integration, innovation and advancing practice. 

Since qualifying as a Speech and Language Therapist and Audiologist in 1998, Pauline has held various clinical and management positions in adult and paediatric services in the private and public healthcare sector, within primary care, disability, community care and acute settings. She obtained an M.Sc. in Health Service Management from Trinity College Dublin in 2007 and has an long-standing interest in the function and impact of informal social networks in multi-disciplinary teams, group dynamics and systems thinking.
