Dr. Eoghan de Barra received his medical degree in Dublin and proceeded to gain specialist training in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine in Ireland and South Africa. He completed an MD in the Department of Tropical Medicine and International Health at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Dublin and conducted malaria vaccine research in Dublin and at the University of Oxford. He worked at Imperial College NHS Trust, London as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine, where he was the clinical lead for the OPAT programme, a site lead for Neuro-Infection, a regional lead for TB.
Dr DeBarra holds a joint appointment at Beaumont and RCSI. He is past secretary of the Infectious Diseases Society of Ireland, current UEMS-ID national representative and chair of the European ID exam board. He is principal investigator for several clinical trials and biobanks and is site lead for the Infectious Diseases Clinical Trial Network, teaches at RCSI and supervises specialist training with the RCPI.
