Consultant out-patient clinics

GPs should refer patients to all consultants/specialties using Healthlink the National Referral System.

Once the referral is received it is triaged by the consultant team and the patient is placed on a waiting list for an appointment. Patients should get an acknowledgement of their referral in due course

We encourage all referrals to come through HealthLink (the national on-line electronic referral system) as this is the safest and most appropriate method of referral allowing the consultant teams to make a more informed decision and helping to reduce processing times.  However some GP practices do not have access to Healthlink and the department email addresses below are an alternative method of referral.  GPs who are not registered with Healthlink can do so by going to www.healthlink.ie and selecting the application form tab on the home page. The on-line electronic referral form is for new patient referrals only and not for requests to follow up patients, queries on test results, or requests to prioritise existing referrals. We ask that you do not use it for general correspondence to consultants.  If you need to send any correspondence to the consultants outside of requests for new patient appointments please address these to the relevant Consultant’s secretary (department email addresses are above)
