Having to come into hospital is a stressful and worrying time. We have put together some useful information below to help you prepare for your stay in Beaumont Hospital.
In Beaumont Hospital, we prioritise a seamless and respectful admission process. Our admissions office will coordinate your admission to hospital in conjunction with your team and schedule your admission date. If you have any questions about your care or treatment, or any concerns, our staff are here to help.
If you have a planned admission to hospital (you might also hear it called a scheduled or elective admission), you will receive a call from our Scheduled Care Team the week before to advise you of the date of your admission and answer any questions you may have. Its very important that we have your correct details so check with the OPD clinic secretary at your final visit that we have the right address and telephone number for you.
You will have had a discussion with your Consultant at a previous out-patient appointment where you will be advised if your procedure will take place in Beaumont or St. Joseph’s Hospital. We will ask you to phone the admissions office at 01 8092170 on the day before your admission, to confirm that a bed will be available for you.
Your admission letter will tell you what to do to prepare for your procedure. Please make sure you follow any instructions about eating or drinking on the day of your admission. If you don’t, we may have to delay or postpone your treatment.
Please do not come to the hospital until our admissions office has confirmed a bed is available. We'll do everything we can to make sure there's no change to your admission date but sometimes this is unavoidable if a large number of patients need emergency care. If your operation is cancelled on the day of admission we will re-admit you as soon as possible.
While there is limited storage space beside your bed there is a locker where you can store your personal belongings. We ask patients to leave valuables at home wherever possible. If you have brought valuables with you, please ask a relative to take them home for you as the hospital cannot accept responsibility for their loss or damage.
Please be careful of your medical aids which assist you with your daily living such as hearing aids, dentures, eye glasses, walking sticks, zimmer frames, personal wheelchairs etc. as the hospital cannot accept responsibility for their loss or damage .
There are no hospital charges for public in-patient care or day care services or if you attend the Emergency Department (ED) of a public Hospital once you have a letter from a GP or family doctor (please make sure you bring this letter with you or sometimes the GP will call to let us know that they are sending you into us). If you attend Emergency Department (ED) of a public hospital without a letter from a GP or family doctor will be liable for a hospital charge of €100. Medical card holders and certain other groups do not have to pay ED hospital charges. For more on information on hospital charges please see HERE
There are a number of B&Bs, guesthouses and hotels in the local area. Please note that we can’t take responsibility for the standards of those accommodations, however you might be able to find reviews online that can help you to make your decision.
