Are there any hotels close to the hospital? Tick

Answer

There are a number of B&Bs, guesthouses and hotels in the local area. Please note that we can’t take responsibility for the standards of those accommodations, however you might be able to find reviews online that can help you to make your decision or check the Board Fáilte Guide.

Are there charges for attending the Emergency Department? Tick

Answer

There are no charges if you attend the Emergency Department of a public Hospital once you have a letter from a GP or if the GP rings ahead to let us know that they are sending you into us.  Please make sure you bring the GP letter with you.   If you attend Emergency Department (ED) of a public hospital without a letter from a GP or family doctor will be liable for a Hospital charge of €100. The same applies to EU residents who hold have a valid EHIC card.  You will need to bring that with you to the ED.  Medical card holders and certain other groups do not have to pay ED hospital charges.  There are a different set of charges for non-EU residents. Beaumont is a public hospital which means there are no charges for public inpatient or day care services for Irish Residents.  There are charges if you are a non EU resident and for some other categories of patients. You can see these charges HERE

Are there separate male and female wards? Tick

Our wards are all mixed gender wards (both male & female)

Can I be seen sooner by a different consultant if the waiting List is too long? Tick

Answer

Sometimes when we get a referral from a GP to a service (rather than to a particular Consultant) we will place those patients on the shortest waiting list for that service.

Can I bring a relative/friend with me to my appointment? Tick

Answer

While we generally ask that patients arrive alone for their appointments we understand that some patients will need help – so if this applies to you then yes of course you can bring someone with you.  You can also ask that our companion comes into the appointment with you so you understand everything you are being told.  They may be asked to wait outside if the doctor wants to examine you. 

Can I have an interpreter with me at my appointment? Tick

Yes, if English is not your first language we can arrange an Interpreter/Translator to go to your appointment with you.  To arrange this you must contact the Clinic Secretary at least a week before your appointment date so arrangements can be made.  Check the letter you received confirming your appointment for the contact details

Can I send/receive flowers? Tick

Answer

We do not allow flowers to be delivered to patients in the interests of space constraints and hygiene requirements.  

Can I smoke? Tick

Answer

Our smoking policy In line with the law, we prohibit smoking in Beaumont Hospital. You can find out more about this in our Smoke Free information leaflet, which you can find on every ward. If you would like to stop smoking and want some support, you can contact our Health Promotion Department on (01) 8092941 to use our Quit Smoking support service. 

Can I use my mobile phone? Tick

You can use your mobile phone – but we ask that you do not disturb other patients.  In some areas where there is vital medical equipment, we may ask you not to use your phone as it may interfere with the operation of this equipment.

Can I walk in for an X ray without an appointment? Tick

Answer

Yes, radiology have a walk-in service for GP-referred chest X-rays only.  Patients can arrive with their GP referral letter and get a chest X-ray, without an appointment, between the hours of 08:30 to 15:00 only, Monday to Friday.

Yes, generally a Consultant will ask you what medications you are taking.  If it’s easier, just bring a list of all your medications – your Pharmacist will give you this list.

How do I get a copy of my medical records? Tick

Answer

You have a right to access copies of medical records for yourself, another individual, or an organization.  Any such request will be processed under the Freedom of Information Act in order to protect your rights.  This can be arranged for you by contacting the Freedom of Information (FOI) Department on foi@beaumont.ie.  See further information including forms for requesting your records on the FOI page

How do I know if you have received my referral? Tick

You will receive a text message confirming that we have received your referral for an outpatient appointment.

How do I obtain a death notification form / death cert for a relative who has passed away in the hospital? Tick

Answer

The Death Certs Office in the hospital will contact the next of kin of the deceased and will provide a Death Notification Form which can be collected at main reception or can be sent by registered post. You will need to bring this form to any Civil Registration Office to register the death and they will provide you with a Death Cert.  You can phone the Death Certs office @ 01 809 2182 or email us at deathcerts@beaumont.ie.  

How do I pay a hospital bill? Tick

Answer

Payments can be made over the phone with your credit or debit card. Please phone the patient accounts department on 01 809 2404/01 809 3415/01 809 3499 between the hours of 10am to 12:30pm and 14:30pm to 16:00pm.

You can pay your bill by cheque via post. Please make cheques payable to Beaumont Hospital and post it directly to the finance department. Please include your medical record number (MRN) or your invoice number with your payment.  Please do not send cash through the post.  You can also visit the cash office on the main concourse if you wish to pay by cash. How long does it take to get an appointment? Tick

Each specialty has different length waiting lists, so it is difficult to give an exact timeframe, but rest assured we will issue an appointment as soon as possible.  Appointments are given based on clinical need – generally routine or urgent.

How will I know where my appointment is? Tick

The location of your appointment will be written on your appointment letter – make sure you arrive at the right location as we have OPD clinics in Beaumont, St Joseph’s Hospital and in our satellite clinic in Omni Shopping Centre.

I have special dietary requirements. Do I need to tell anyone before I arrive? Tick

No, you will be asked if you have any special dietary requirements as part of the admissions process when you arrive.

Our staff are committed to the protection of patients’ privacy; thus as you will appreciate, that speaking about a patients’ progress must be carefully controlled.

Please remember, while our staff are prepared to help with enquiries at all times, their primary role is the delivery of care to the patient. Unnecessary enquiries should be avoided. One spokesperson from the family should be appointed to contact the Hospital for updates on their relative – that persons name should be given to the ward staff and be recorded on the patients chart if possible.

I’m being admitted to the hospital, what do I need to bring with me? Tick

Answer

•    Your admission letter
•    Details of your next of kin 
•    All the medicines that you use, including supplements 
•    Your medical card, if you have one
•    Details of your health insurance policy, if you have one
•    Clothing – bring comfortable day clothing and night wear that is easy put on, take off and move around in – we do encourage     patients to change into day wear if at all possible
•    Footwear & slippers– well fitting and non-slip
•    Toiletries and towels
•    Walking aid, hearing aid, glasses, contact lenses and dentures, if you use them
•    Do not bring valuables

If I am a private patient can I request a single room? Tick

Answer

Unfortunately not.  Beaumont is a public Hospital and all patients are treated equally.  Private rooms are kept for the sickest patients, for patients with immune disorders, or in circumstances of infection control.

Is Beaumont a teaching hospital? Tick

Answer

Beaumont Hospital is a university teaching hospital that trains doctors, nurses and other health professionals. You might see students on the wards and they may help to deliver your care or treatment under supervision once you agree. They may also be present during your procedure or operation.

Is there a cafe or restaurant in the hospital? Tick

BoHO Cafe is located along the main corridor of the Hospital, across from the Hospital Shop. Opening hours are from 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and from 9:00am to 6:00pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays

Is there a chapel or religious services available in the hospital? Tick

The Hospital Chaplaincy Department is inter-denominational and provides a full pastoral services for patients of all faiths.  We have a lovely Chapel which is open 24 hours for quiet reflection.  Mass is celebrated from Monday to Friday at 1pm, on Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 1pm. Please let the ward staff know if you are leaving the ward

Is there a shop at the hospital? Tick

The Hospital Shop is located along the main corridor of the Hospital across from the Café.  Opening hours are from 7am-8pm Monday to Friday and from 9am - 6pm Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

There is a multi-storey carpark available for patient/visitor parking which is operated by Q-Park. This is open 24 hours day. The charges are

  • Up to 1 hour - €2.40
  • Up to 2 hours -  €4.80
  • Up to 3 hours - €7.20
  • Up to 24 hours -  €9.00

There is also a 24 hour day pass which is available from the carpark office as you enter.

Yes, free WiFi is available throughout the Hospital. You are welcome to bring in a device and connect to the Guest WiFi.  We ask that you bring earphones so you don’t disturb other patients.

Please arrive at the Hospital 10 minutes before your appointment time, however do allow time for parking.

What are your visiting hours? Tick

Routine visiting hours are  
•    Monday to Friday from 17:30 to 19:30 
•    Weekends and Public or Bank Holidays from 14:00 to 16:00 and from 17:30 to 19:30 
During our routine visiting hours we allow two visitors per patient. We do not allow children under the age of 16 to visit unless in exceptional circumstances such as compassionate visiting or end of life care.   Visiting can sometimes be curtailed or suspended at very short notice for infection control purposes.

Exceptional visiting - Exceptional visiting due to end of life care or vulnerable patients whereby time is not restricted.  Visiting must be pre-arranged in agreement with the Clinical Nurse Manager of the ward/unit   Please contact the ward directly and speak to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

What happens when I get to the ED? Tick

Answer

We will register you We use something called 'triage' to find out who needs to be seen most urgently.
When you arrive, you will be seen by a triage nurse. The triage nurse is trained to find out what is wrong with you.
They will prioritise you based on your condition. But if anything changes or if you begin to feel worse, let them know right away.

What if I change address or phone number? Tick

It is important that we have all your correct details – we will only send correspondance or texts to you at the address or phone number we have for you on file – if you change your address or mobile number please let the Clinic Secretary know.   It is also a good idea to check with the Clinic Secretary when you are at your next OPD appointment that we have your correct details. Make sure your let your GP know if you have changed your address as well.

What if I need to change my appointment? Tick

You can contact the Clinic Secretary directly to reschedule your appointment to another date. Check the letter you received confirming your appointment for the contact details you need. The Clinic Secretary contact details are also available on the Consultant section of the website under  the name of your Consultant.

When should I visit the Emergency Department? Tick

Go to an ED urgently instead of an injury unit for:

Pregnancy-related injuries
Injuries to the chest, tummy (abdomen) or pelvis
Serious head and spine injuries

Patients presenting to Emergency Department are seen in order of clinical priority. People presenting with non-urgent or minor conditions and injuries may experience extended wait times.

There are times when we need to share your information to ensure you receive the best care and treatment. We may share your information with your GP, Community services, other hospitals or care facilities.  We also give reports to organisations such as the HSE, HIQA, the National Cancer Programme, the National Office of Clinical Audit and others. These reports may be put together using information collected from patients.
