Sleep and Ventilation

The Beaumont Hospital Sleep and Ventilation Program can help with the diagnosis and treatment of severe or prolonged difficulties related to sleep. These include excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia, kicking or punching during sleep, sleepwalking, obstructive sleep apnea, poor sleep habits, pre-operative sleep apnea screening, restless legs, shift work sleep problems and shortness of breath during sleep.

Our staff is experienced in the treatment and research of all types of sleep disorders and includeincludes respiratory consultants, sleep physiologists, nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, technical services and administrative staff.

Our program includes an in-patient sleep unit (St Josephs, Raheny) outfitted with state-of-the-art recording equipment for sleep studies. We can also provide limited in- home or in-hospital monitoring to screen and follow up on sleep and ventilation disorders.

In addition, Beaumont Hospital Respiratory specialists combine leading clinical practice with groundbreaking research in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory failure. With a focus on chronic respiratory weakness associated with motor neuron disease, muscular dystrophy, as well as other neuromuscular conditions. We also support chronic respiratory failure seen in respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension and severe interstitial lung disease.

We accept referrals from both primary and secondary care physicians, and from the respiratory integrated care specialist hub. Referrals can be made via healthlink, email respiratoryadmin@beaumont.ie or post.
