Sinéad obtained her primary degree in microbiology from NUI Galway followed by a PhD in bacterial genetics from UCD. In 2010 she graduated from the RCSI's Graduate Entry Medicine Programme. Her research interests focus on improving diagnostics for, and the management of patients with infection. Her particular interest is in the use of molecular technology to provide rapid diagnostics in the setting of sepsis. Sinéad is passionate about bridging the gap between the bench and the bedside with regard to innovative diagnostics, and the use of her molecular expertise to this end. She has continued to develop her skills in genomics and its application in Clinical Microbiology particularly in the areas of Healthcare-associated Infection (HCAI) prevention and control.
