Bronchiectasis and rare lung disease

We have specialist expertise in the management of patients with bronchiectasis associated with immunodeficiency syndromes, non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease, aspergillus-related lung disease, rheumatoid arthritis, serious childhood infection, chronic aspiration, primary ciliary dyskinesia and CFTR- related disorders.

About

In addition to cystic lung diseases which are rare lung disorders characterised by multiple cysts, such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), Lymphoid Interstitial Pneumonia (LIP), Pulmonary Langerhans’ Cell Histiocytosis (PLCH), and Birt-Hogg- Dubé syndrome.

The team includes 4 respiratory consultants and specialist respiratory physiotherapists and we work closely with colleagues in Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology.

We have 2 clinics a week; on a Wednesday and a Thursday, where new referrals and follow-up patients are seen. All patients will attend for a CT scan of the chest, lung function tests, blood tests, specialist microbiological testing of sputum samples and a specialist chest physiotherapy review and in certain cases may need more specialist investigations which we arrange including bronchoscopy, genetic testing and tests to assess CFTR function and cilial dysfunction.

Referrals

We accept referrals from colleagues both external and within the hospital and from general practitioners via Healthlink to the respiratory service.
