Interventional Radiology uses imaging technology such as X-ray, CT or ultrasound to look inside patients and perform minimally invasive procedures. The vast majority of procedures can be performed under local anaesthetic or sedation with only a very few complex cases requiring a general anaesthetic.
Your procedure will be performed in the Radiology department, lower ground floor of Beaumont Hospital.
There are various preparations that you may need to make, depending on the type of IR procedure you are having. If preparation is required, you will be informed of this in your appointment letter.
In most cases, you will remain in the Radiology Department recovery area for a short time, under radiology nurse observation. The results will be sent to the doctor who referred you. If you are a hospital inpatient, the results will be available to the doctors looking after you on the ward. Results are not routinely sent to your GP unless requested. Results are not sent to your home address.
It is advised that you wear comfortable clothing that can be easily changed. Minimal jewellery is also advised, as this will need to be removed. Please do not being any valuables
