Prof. Danny Cheriyan graduated from RCSI with an honours degree in 2005 and completed specialist training in gastroenterology in Beaumont and St. Vincents Hospital, Dublin. He was the UCD Newman Scholar in colorectal cancer and was awarded an MD from UCD for his research on colorectal cancer and angiogenesis.
Following completion of specialist training in gastroenterology in Ireland, he undertook two fellowships in advanced endoscopy and hepatobiliary medicine; the first at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and the second at Duke University, North Carolina, USA.
He joined Beaumont Hospital as a consultant gastroenterologist and honorary clinical senior lecturer (RCSI) in 2016, and became an honorary clinical associate professor (RCSI) in 2023. He served as associate clinical director for medicine (Beaumont) from 2018-2020, and is currently the clinical lead for endoscopy in Beaumont Hospital, and the programme director for international residency training for RCPI. Prof. Cheriyan has authored several publications and book chapters.
He is experienced in all areas of general gastroenterology, but his special interests include endoscopic resection of gastrointestinal cancers (EMR and ESD), endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, and hepatobiliary disease.
