Beaumont Hospital is a tertiary referral teaching hospital. We currently provide anaesthesia for 13 theatres in Beaumont Hospital, 2 theatres in St Joseph’s Raheny, Interventional Radiology, Preoperative assessment clinics, Acute and Chronic pain medicine, 3 Intensive Care Units (ICU North-12 beds, ICU South 8-beds and Richmond ICU 10 beds).
We provide anaesthesia for renal transplantation both living related and cadaveric, cochlear implantation and neurosurgery. We also provide anaesthesia for oncological surgery for upper and lower GI, breast including reconstruction, Urology and head and Neck Surgery. Beaumont delivers emergency theatre care to over 3200 patients per annum. Our patients are very high risk patients, being referred for all over the North East of Ireland and Nationally.
Within the Anaesthetic Division there are currently anaesthesia sub-specialty interests within the department including Trauma/Orthopaedics, Neuroanaesthesia, Transplant, Urology, Difficult Airway, Upper and Lower GI, Vascular anaesthesia, Paediatric anaesthesia, Pre-assessment, Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Medicine.
Beaumont Hospital has 14 theatres which operate from Monday to Friday. We provide anaesthesia for patients across a wide range of specialties including neurosurgery, renal transplantation, upper and lower GI surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, Cochlear implantation. We have a very busy emergency service with over 3200 procedures per annum.
The pain service is a growing area of the department. This encompasses a busy acute pain service and a developing chronic pain service. We manage 30 intensive care beds over 3 units. Our ICU occupancy is consistently over 103% and deals with a complex patient cohort.

In accordance with best practice we are striving to provide a pre-assessment service for all elective patients attending Beaumont Hospital for an operatin. This is delivered in the form of consultant chart reviews and a weekly OPD clinic.

We provide anaesthesia for interventional radiology for coiling of aneurysm in sub-arachnoid haemorrhage and clot retrieval in thrombotic stroke. We also provide anaesthesia for paediatric MRI.
