Clinical Neurophysiology (CN) is a consultant led clinical and diagnostic specialty used in the investigation and management of patients with peripheral (muscle and nerve) and central (epilepsy, dementia, disorders). Investigations include nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials (EPs). Specialised investigations including intraoperative monitoring (IOM), inpatient video EEG and ICU monitoring are now accepted international standards of care.
The Clinical Neurophysiology Department team is made up of consultant clinical neurophysiologists, clinical measurement scientists, a technician assistant, a clinical nurse specialist and a senior staff nurse supported by administrative staff.
Teaching, research and clinical audit are integral components of the department's activity. All members of staff are encouraged and facilitated to participate in research and training to further develop their careers.
