The Department of Neurology provides both a general neurology outpatient service as well as providing specialist care in epilepsy, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Migraine/headache, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), movement disorders and cognitive decline.
The Department of Neurology also facilitates out-patient (ambulatory) patient care in the Neurology Day Unit. This service provides a direct pathway to senior clinician review and also facilitates procedures such as lumbar punctures, infusions etc.
The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is a 4 bedded specialist unit that facilitates 24 hour monitoring of individuals for epilepsy and seizure activity.
The neurology department is very committed to research and has active research programmes in Motor Neuron Disease, Epilepsy, Neurodegeneration, Multiple Sclerosis, and Migraine.
A 24/7 neurology on-call service and a consults liaison service is also provided to other medical and surgical specialties in the hospital.
The primary location for the Department of Neurology is within Beaumont Hospital with certain out-patient clinics being facilitated in Omni Satellite Centre.
