The medical speciality of rheumatology involves the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, vasculitis, gout, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis amongst others.
We provide diagnostic and ongoing care for patients with rheumatic diseases with a particular focus on those requiring immunosuppressive regimens. We operate a general rheumatology out-patients service, a musculoskeletal service with our advanced practice physiotherapists and speciality clinics in lupus, scleroderma, ankylosing spondylitis, early arthritis and vasculitis.
Newly diagnosed inflammatory arthritis patients are managed in our ‘treat to target’ clinic run by our advanced nurse practitioner team. Patients on immunosuppressive medicines requiring blood monitoring are educated and managed by our clinical nurse specialists in rheumatology.
Referrals to the rheumatology department are via the GP through Healthlink. The email address for referrals to Rheumatology where Healthlink cannot be used is rheumatologyadmin@beaumont.ie Early arthritis patients can be referred using the form from the Irish Society of Rheumatology.
