The Risk & Legal Department aims is to ensure that the hospital operates in compliance with relevant statutory legislation, clinical guidelines, policies and procedures, and best practice standards in the delivery of safe, effective and person centred care.

About

The Risk & Legal Department has six distinct roles in the hospital:

  1. The assessment and follow up of clinical and non- clinical incidents, including input into the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the sharing of learnings from incidents.
  2. The coordination and management of system analysis reviews and the sharing of learning and recommendations from incident reviews.
  3. The preparation and management of Coroner’s cases including the provision of support and guidance to staff involved in various stages of the Coroners process.
  4. The co-ordination of legal claims working closely with staff, the State Claims Agency and relevant legal teams in the management of clinical, employee and public liability and property damage claims.
  5. The overall negotiation and co-ordination of the hospital’s insurance portfolio.
  6. Lessons learned from incident trends and analysis, systems analysis reviews, coroner’s cases and legal claims are followed up with the relevant clinical teams and directorate staff.
