Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a comprehensive programme offered to patients following a cardiac event such as a heart attack, cardiac surgery or stenting.  CR helps patients with heart disease recover faster, live longer and have fewer complications after a cardiac event. Through a combination of exercise, education and psychological support, patients are supported to play an active role in regaining their quality of life and protecting their future health.

Beaumont hospital’s CR department (established in 1987) is a multi-award winning internationally accredited CR centre. Lead by a medical director (consultant cardiologist), our specialist team of professionals work together to provide patients with supervised exercise, psychological, pharmacological and dietary support. This highly experienced team have trained with the MAYO Clinic in the delivery of high-performance CR, and our centre is accredited by both the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary rehabilitation (AACVPR). CR is scientifically proven to improve cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of future heart disease and complications.

The specialist multi-disciplinary cardiac rehab team is led by the Cardiac Rehab Clinical Director: Professor Richard Sheahan F.R.C.P.I., F.E.S.C., F.H.R.S, Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist.
