The Infectious Disease team provides assessment, advice, diagnosis and treatment for people who may have an infection or be at risk of one. We look after many different types of people and infections. We have our own inpatients and outpatients and work with other teams in the hospital to manage the infection aspects of their patients.
Our team is made up of consultants, doctors in training, nurses, pharmacists, administrators, social workers and a psychologist and is linked with infectious ciseases teams in Drogheda and Connolly Hospitals. We care for inpatients and outpatients, general internal Medicine and infectious diseases. We aim to offer comprehensive, compassionate and confidential care. We also work closely with the wider hospital providing guidance on contagious diseases and their prevention.
A hospital consultant or GP may refer a patient to the service.
Outpatient referrals can be made via Healthlink or letter from GPs or external consultants to the ID admin team. The ID service also accepts referrals from the emergency department via email and from International protection reception centres.
Inpatient referrals can be made via the hospital electronic referral system or to the ID registrar on consults. Specific referrals can also be made via the OPAT nursing team for review by ID team.
